This is what is truly close to my heart. Spending an hour or two in the bushes picking salmonberries with my partner and kids. This is a big piece of what it means for me to touch down on earth, have my heart rest in its natural space, stewarding the land and the bodies of the ones I love the most.
Totally! Beautiful words to go along with some tasty-looking photos. Here in the Okanagan, this time of year is filled with fruity expectations as we see things ripening everywhere: in the vineyards, orchards and the woods. The wild saskatoon berries will likely be first, and Ivy and I have been talking about it since we saw their white blossoms weeks ago.
HI Chris, as I was out this morning to pick my fruit from my garden (raspberries) I was thinking of you and the berries you told about. And here is the picture!
For me too, I couldn’t live without this connection to the land, my little garden, with flowers, berries, vegetables…
My love to your whole family!
After many years in Melbourne, Australia yearning for a berry farm I am now blessed to quite unexpectedly find myself living in LuleÃ¥, Sweden, just south of the artic circle. There are berry bushes everywhere – lingon, blueberry, etc – and last Autumn I picked my first ever wild berries with our two children. Heaven! I used the last of the frozen blueberries last week in a delicious blueberry pie that we shared with friends. And yes, for me too your words about berry picking capture the essence of what life is about…”to touch down on earth, have my heart rest in its natural space, stewarding the land and the bodies of the ones I love the most”. Thankyou!
