Section 10.1 talks about him being a threat to national security, of Canada or another nation. Seeing as Canada has cleared him of that, clearly it's another nation. My bet is that Andorra is safe.

Poor guy...has he any hope of getting home? Is he now stateless? Has the UN no fly list effectively resulted in him being deprived of a UN sanctioned human right?

That seems to square with appearances. At any rate, I still have not heard back from my MP after sending the email and leaving phone messages for him.

A big concern here is that Constitutional rights are being violated with no cause or justifcation. Apparently even the UN no-fly list has provisions for bringing people home to stand trial.

Section 6.1 of our Charter states that all Canadians have the right to enter, remain in and leave Canada, without any qualification on that right. So I think at this point, Abdelrazik has a strong human rights case on his hands, if he can ever get back here to make it.

For the rest of us that travel...the question still remains: under which conditions will the government safguard our rights and hold it's Constitutional duty to citizens?

Outrageous. Not the country I want or believe in.

I will look up the mailing address of Sean Robertson and be writing (and mailing) a letter, once a week. Starting today.

Excellent letter, Chris.
If they can do this to Abdelrazik, they can do it to any of us.
This is the portion of the UN resolution that allows repatriation of citizens on the UN no-fly list :
UN resolution 1390, Section 2b: With respect to persons on the list, member states are obligated to "[p]revent the entry into or the transit through their territories of these individuals, provided that nothing in this paragraph shall oblige any State to deny entry into or require the departure from its territories of its own nationals and this paragraph shall not apply where entry or transit is necessary for the fulfilment of a judicial process or the Committee determines on a case by case basis only that entry or transit is justified."

The man in charge of Abdelrazik's file is :
Sean Robertson,
Director, Case Management Division Consular Services and Emergency Management Branch
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0G2
