I go with 'stop serving melons'! I never eat them, just like you Chris. I am always wondering if people know something about seasons... what grows naturally in your/the local garden or not...

Clark...I'm glad you eat the melon...I love melons when they are ripe, cut from the vine, full of juice and a perfumed flavour. THose aren't the kinds of melos I'm talking about!

As for January, at least in this part of wintry North America, breakfasts could easily be made up of stored fruit like apples which keep for months, and frozen berries which also keep for months. Bread and jam for fibre and carbs, yogurt and milk, eggs and chees are all good for protein, even Rob's beloved bacon and sausages are fine when they are local and well made, and available all year around. Freezing juices are a good way to preserve vitamins from the summer as well.

There is lots that COULD be done, but it is impossible to do if you have a three year contract with SYSCO to serve whatever you is made available by the corporate industrial food system. That results in 90% of the fruit plates in my life have strawberries and pineapple threaded between grean, yello and pink melon. All year round, in every place.

I'm *glad* when I get to go to catered events and eat melon. Family doesn't (wife says brothers were allergic and kids may be), so it's the only chance I get! OK, so it may not be environmentally sound (though still better than bacon/sausage), but unless we start a movement to go with locally grown & seasonal produce all around (and I'm for it, though a bit curious what we'll eat in January), I'm going to continue to lobby for melon for breakfast.
